Riverside accident leads to road worker injuries

A construction worker that was contracted to work with Caltrans was critically injured in a car accident on the 91 Freeway. The driver, who is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, fled the scene before police were able to make an arrest but was later found about a mile from the crash site. This accident marks the latest in a series of construction-site crashes that killed 17 workers in California in 2012.
A witness at the construction site noted that he did not hear a squeal of brakes or anything to indicate that the driver made an attempt to slow down or stop. Instead, he heard a noise, turned around, and saw his colleague lying on the ground. The driver had already fled the scene by this time.
